03 / Sections and blocks

Build your own design, block by block.

Comers pages are stacks of sections, and sections are made of blocks. Learn the idea once and you can build any layout.

  1. Template

    A page type, such as Home page or Default product.

  2. Section

    A full-width strip, such as CM Hero or CM Featured collection.

  3. Block

    One item inside a section, such as a slide, a card or the product price.

Will installing Comers change my live store?

No. An uploaded theme is added to your theme library as unpublished. Customers keep seeing your current theme until you press Publish, and your old theme stays in the library so you can switch back in one click.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Every guide here uses the Shopify theme editor only. Code is optional and limited to two places: the CM Custom Liquid section and the Custom CSS box, both covered in Build your own design.

What is the difference between a section and a block?

A section is a full-width strip of a page, such as a hero or a product rail. A block is one item inside it, such as a slide or a card. You add, reorder and hide both from the editor sidebar.

Can I create my own page layouts?

Yes. Create a new template in the theme editor, add any combination of Comers sections, then assign that template to a page, product or collection. The Build your own design guide includes three ready-to-follow recipes.

Where do I change colours and fonts for the whole store?

In Theme settings, under Colors and Typography. Each section can then override the global colours in its own CM customise group when you want it to stand out.
