Install Comers

Upload the theme ZIP, preview it safely next to your current theme, and publish when you are happy.

10 min8 stepsFor everyone

Before you start

  • The Comers theme ZIP file, exactly as downloaded (do not unzip it).
  • A Shopify staff account with the Themes permission.
  • At least one product and one collection, so previews are not empty.

What you will have

Comers sits in your theme library as an unpublished theme you can customise and preview without visitors seeing it.

  1. Open your theme library

    Shopify adminOnline StoreThemes

The top of this page shows your current (live) theme. Everything below it, under Theme library, is unpublished and invisible to customers. Comers will be added there.

  2. Back up your current theme first

    ThemesCurrent theme⋯Duplicate

Duplicating takes a few seconds and gives you a copy you can republish in one click if you ever want to go back.

TipRename the copy with today's date, for example “Backup – 7 Oct”. It makes the right copy easy to find later.

  3. Upload the Comers ZIP

    ThemesAdd themeUpload zip file

Choose the Comers ZIP and click Upload file. Shopify unpacks it and adds “Comers” to your theme library. This usually takes under a minute.

ImportantUpload the ZIP as it is. If your computer unzipped it automatically, re-download it or compress the theme folder again so that assets, config, layout, locales, sections, snippets and templates sit at the top level of the ZIP.

  4. Preview before anything else

    Theme libraryComers⋯Preview

Preview opens your real store data inside Comers in a private tab. Click through the homepage, a product, a collection and the cart on both a desktop window and your phone.

    • Homepage loads with the default section stack.
    • A product page shows images, variants and the Add to cart button.
    • Adding a product opens the bag drawer.
  5. Open the theme editor

    Theme libraryComersCustomize

This is where all customisation happens. Nothing you save here affects your live store while Comers is unpublished.

TipNew to the editor? Take five minutes with the “Learn the theme editor” guide before changing settings.

  6. Connect your menus

    Shopify adminContentMenus

Comers reads your Shopify menus. The header uses the menu with the handle main-menu by default, and the footer has four menu slots. Create or tidy these menus now so navigation appears as soon as you open the editor.

TipOn some stores this page is under Online Store → Navigation instead of Content → Menus.

  7. Publish when ready

    Theme libraryComersPublish

Publishing swaps Comers in as your live theme immediately. Your previous theme moves into the theme library untouched, so switching back is always one click.

ImportantWork through the launch checklist first. Publishing is instant and visible to every visitor.

  8. Developers: install with Shopify CLI (optional)

If you work from the theme source, push it as a new unpublished theme, or run a live local preview that hot-reloads as you edit files.

shopify theme push --unpublished --store your-store.myshopify.com
    shopify theme dev --store your-store.myshopify.com
